PARA SOCIAL
An installation by Christoph Faulhaber

August 5th - 8th, 2021, 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Dozens of oversized balls, each 3 meters in diameter, form the centre of the installation “Para Social” by the visual artist Christoph Faulhaber from Hamburg. A colorful world of entertainment, made of color, air and plastic, which has long grown over our heads. When the spectator tries to pave a path through the "ball pool", the worldwide territorial claims on our exploited planet become tangible: You have to push and press, you feel the resistance of the invisible balls behind and thus involuntarily deprives other visitors their range of motion. The ball game, which only seems cheerful at first glance, develops into a trial of strength between man and nature and their physical laws. In the context of the Corona Pandemic, however, the large inflated balls appear in a different light. Minimum distance and prescribed “social distancing” give the installation a politically very topical dimension. The new laws of the community present themselves to the visitors tangible, negotiable, haptic, tactile - sensual.
